We weren’t sure we wanted to have a destination wedding. It’s a strange thought: we would go to Mexico, where we don’t speak their language, invite our family and friends to travel by plane instead of the Chicago expressways and commit a good three to four days instead of an evening to our wedding.
Are we ever glad we did.
How did we make that decision? Through a friend of the family, we met Barbara Cole of Perfect Plan Events and Travel. We asked her to check out Playa del Carmen in Mexico. She did that. And she sent us down to Mexico, with Tasha’s Mom, to meet the Playa del Carmen coordinator. We saw the entire site, had a tasting of the kind of food we might serve and that visit made it clear: this was an amazing, high caliber, an impeccable place to have our wedding.
Then came the detail.
We wanted to have the wedding ceremony on the beach and the reception on the terrace overlooking the ocean. But we needed a contingency if it rained. The site recommended a room, indoors. We could have done that anywhere in the world. We wanted to rent out the restaurant with its ocean view as a fallback. The site was reluctant. They’d never done that before. Well, Barbara cares only for what you want. Her persistence and persuasiveness made it happen.
From there on, everything fell into place.
When can you say you threw a wedding and ended up taking a vacation with half your family and friends? Every moment was so relaxing, happy and carefree. If our Grandmother was happy, you know we were all having fun.
We ended the evening with just about everyone jumping into the pool with their tuxes and dresses on. Oh, and then we had a Super Bowl Party with everyone the next day! Perfect plan? We’d say so.
What three words best describe Perfect Plan for you?
“Creative, persistent, persuasive and trustworthy (okay, that’s four: we just ‘Barbara’d’—got what we wanted)”.
